We spent most of last week in Ramadi in western Iraq, not too far from Fallujah. Many of the soldiers there had been away from their homes and families for two years. The 2nd ID 2nd BCT was deployed to Korea, then came straight to Iraq. They will be returning to the United States in a few days. Ramadi was a very dusty and unforgiving environment. We stayed in tents, took showers under barely functional drippy showers and endured 120 degree days. Despite these shortcomings it was a worthwhile trip. The soldiers there have been through a lot and I'm glad we could record their unique story.
This is a shot taken over a busy intersection in western Baghdad. We've received well over 200 pounds of sandals, art supplies and toys for children in Baghdad which have been given out in this area. Thank you very much for contributing.
Above is a set table reserved for fallen soldiers in a dining facility in Tikrit.
Above is one of the two main staircases in the Al Faw palace, shown below.
This palace houses our Military History
office. It's surrounded by a lake and the only way to enter or exit is on
this main road. The lake contains fish that Saddam had stocked with an
Iraqi version of Bass. We've recently been asked to conduct some
tours of the palace, one of the more memorable was for Country Music
Television.
Many other Roman inspired building line the outer parameter of surrounding shoreline around the Al Faw Palace.
There are a good number of working dogs
here that help find hidden explosive and provide security. The sun can
damage the dogs eyes so they often wear sun glasses. This is the 4th of July celebration at Camp Victory. There was a cake cutting which was televised on CNN.
